The Obama administration has found the enemy and it is Fox News. The New York Times and CNN got it straight from the lips of White House communications director Anita Dunn who revealed that, . . . more

Mari H., Jun 13, 2009, 2:33PM EDTHey Jack, I've just been reading every true crime novel I can get my hands on (21 in less than 3 months!). I don't read about the mob or serial killers-I'm more interested in the psyche of the "twisted mind." I just finished "Bitter Harvest" by Ann Rule-kinda scary! I'm at the library now, & if they have your book, "The Girls of Cincinatti," I'll check it out.

Mari H., Jun 12, 2009, 6:16PM EDTJack, I had no idea...I'm not a Demi Moore fan which is probably why I didn't like the movie. Even tho' I'm on a true crime kick right now, I'm adding your book-Indecent Proposal- to my summer reading list.

Elizabeth V., Jun 21, 2008, 7:03PM EDTAlso, you mentioned Salinger, said he probably removed himself because the thought the world can't contain his glory. I think that's what I think, too. But why do you think that? I do because I read a book years ago by a woman who used to be his girlfriend, Joyce something, also a writer, much, much younger. Sounded like he got pretty strange. Is that what you think?

Elizabeth V., Jun 21, 2008, 6:55PM EDTJack, I'm on page 11 of The Bathsheba Deadline, and I already don't like Lyla. Was that intentional?

Elizabeth V., Jun 11, 2008, 6:17PM EDTJack, I already got Bathsheba Deadline and Indecent Proposal from amazon. Remember, I thought it would take them a month because I used their "super-saver shipping"? I can't start Bathsheba until I finish another book, Child 44. Are you familiar with it? Anyhow, I did glance at the beginning of Bathsheba and notice that you have lots of experience in journalism, which I didn't know. I started out in journalism after college, just weekly newspapers.

Elizabeth V., May 3, 2008, 8:06AM EDTOops! I didn't mean that you're a wannabe writer; I meant that you're the type of writer many technical writers want to be.

Elizabeth V., May 3, 2008, 8:03AM EDTYes, every time I read anything I unintentionally find the grammatical errors, typos, punctuation errors, etc. They glare at me. I'm afraid some people are terribly self-conscious about emailing me as a result, even my poor father.
But editing involves a lot more than that. I rewrite information technical people give me. Most employers call that technical writing. But I call it editing unless I actually am writing original material rather than rewriting/re-presenting others' material. I do that sometimes but only if it's not too technical.
I work for a large military contractor and deal, mostly, with the Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command here in Michigan. For example, I might put together assembly instructions for a vehicle that is mine resistant to be used in Iraq.
So the objectives of my writing/editing aren't like yours. My objective isn't to be interesting and creative; it's to be accurate and understandable. But a lot of technical writers are wannabe writers like you are. I have no delusions about my writing. I can't write a page turner.
Oh my, I think I just told you more than you wanted to know! :-) That's a problem I've noticed that many writers have. I try to edit so I don't do that.
No, gather points can't be used for money. Certain numbers of points can be redeemed for certain things. For example, in my case, when I reach 625 points, I redeem them for a $10 Borders gift card. Within a couple weeks after I order the card, it arrives in the mail. I forget what other things you can get because I only care about getting the Borders books.
