Why Fox News Is Losing It -- Jack Engelhard
comments: 7
Is it because Dick Morris never leaves the building? Last week or so the papers (NY Times) reported that Fox News, while still number one, was losing ground to its rivals, like CNN. I was not astonished. . . . more

You and your family have a safe Happy weekend also Jack. I'm sorry I went off on Critics in my comment on your article. I just don't think they care about the reader or the writer.

Also, you mentioned Salinger, said he probably removed himself because the thought the world can't contain his glory. I think that's what I think, too. But why do you think that? I do because I read a book years ago by a woman who used to be his girlfriend, Joyce something, also a writer, much, much younger. Sounded like he got pretty strange. Is that what you think?

Jack, I'm on page 11 of The Bathsheba Deadline, and I already don't like Lyla. Was that intentional?

Jack, I already got Bathsheba Deadline and Indecent Proposal from amazon. Remember, I thought it would take them a month because I used their "super-saver shipping"? I can't start Bathsheba until I finish another book, Child 44. Are you familiar with it? Anyhow, I did glance at the beginning of Bathsheba and notice that you have lots of experience in journalism, which I didn't know. I started out in journalism after college, just weekly newspapers.

Hi Jack. I deleted a couple articles and that is probably why you can't access them. Thank you for trying.

Thank you Jack. I really don't do anything myself. It is just putting the love I have for Gloria, her son Andy and my wife Rose to some positive use. A good relationship with GOD helps a lot also. I take his advice whenever possible.

You did everything correctly. Now I will receive an email any time you publish an image or article.
Gloria is our daughter and only child. We lost her on 2-22-97. She was a passenger in a car that the driver wrecked intentionally. We fought for custody of her 22 month old son Andy and won. The other family then kidnapped him a week before Mother's Day of that same year. It took us 51 days @ $130.00 per hour round the clock for lawyers and detectives to get Andy back and adopt him after terminating his fathers parental rights. He was a crack addict and robbed our home 7 times. Then we threw him out permanently. I have published seven photo essays of Gloria Gardens here on Gather and they tell most of the story behind everything.
I just finished "The Bathsheba Deadline." It is awesome. I read it in two days. A novel usually last me a week. That should tell you I didn't want to put it down. I'll be on Amazon getting more of your books.
Like you, I am growing very weary of the Lunatic Fringe getting their way by screaming the loudest. Take care my friend !!!

Oops! I didn't mean that you're a wannabe writer; I meant that you're the type of writer many technical writers want to be.

Yes, every time I read anything I unintentionally find the grammatical errors, typos, punctuation errors, etc. They glare at me. I'm afraid some people are terribly self-conscious about emailing me as a result, even my poor father.
But editing involves a lot more than that. I rewrite information technical people give me. Most employers call that technical writing. But I call it editing unless I actually am writing original material rather than rewriting/re-presenting others' material. I do that sometimes but only if it's not too technical.
I work for a large military contractor and deal, mostly, with the Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command here in Michigan. For example, I might put together assembly instructions for a vehicle that is mine resistant to be used in Iraq.
So the objectives of my writing/editing aren't like yours. My objective isn't to be interesting and creative; it's to be accurate and understandable. But a lot of technical writers are wannabe writers like you are. I have no delusions about my writing. I can't write a page turner.
Oh my, I think I just told you more than you wanted to know! :-) That's a problem I've noticed that many writers have. I try to edit so I don't do that.
No, gather points can't be used for money. Certain numbers of points can be redeemed for certain things. For example, in my case, when I reach 625 points, I redeem them for a $10 Borders gift card. Within a couple weeks after I order the card, it arrives in the mail. I forget what other things you can get because I only care about getting the Borders books.
